Established in 1969 as a four-bed nursing home located in the heart of Bagalkot city, Banashankari Eye Care has evolved into a modern hospital specializing in advanced eye care, thanks to the leadership of Dr. Girish Masurkar. Dr. Venkaji Ramchandra Kulkarni (26th June 1933 - 1st June 2003) was a renowned ophthalmologist from Babaleshwar, born to Janaki and Ramchandra.
He earned his MBBS from Boroda Medical College in 1960 and practiced in various towns, including Honnutagi, Pattadkal, Tikota, Bidar, and Bellary, before specializing in ophthalmology in Bombay.
After completing his ophthalmology degree at Bombay KEM and winning the Dr. Dastur gold medal for Clinical Excellence, he returned to Bagalkot in 1970. For 33 years, he shone as a luminary in ophthalmology, contributing to numerous camps and conferences while also founding the "Geleyara Balaga" in 1992.
His legacy lives on through the "Banashankari Eye Clinic" in Bagalkot, now overseen by his son-in-law, Dr. G.R. Masurkar, continuing his vision for compassionate eye care.
